Can I Try Hypnotherapy?

A simple way to experience what it feels like

Many people want to try hypnotherapy before deciding whether it is right for them. You do not need to go into a deep state or feel anything dramatic. The easiest way to understand hypnosis is to experience the first step, which is a shift in focus. It is the same skill you use when you concentrate on a thought, a feeling or a memory. The difference in therapy is that we guide this focus deliberately.

Try this exercise...

You can try a gentle example now. Sit comfortably. Let your eyes rest on one point in front of you. Notice your breath without changing it. After a few moments, bring your attention to the weight of your body on the chair or bed. Notice the contact, the stillness and the way your mind begins to settle when it has only one thing to focus on. This is the foundation of hypnosis. It is not dramatic. It is simply attention becoming steadier.

This is the important bit...  when your mind begins to wander - which it will, simply remind yourself to return to the practice.  It is the action of returning back to concentrating on the practice that is the essence of mindfulness.  It is never about stopping thoughts or switching-off the mind - that's impossible.

In sessions this process is supported by guidance, imagery and calm suggestion, but the principle is the same. We quieten the noise so you can work with what is underneath it. This is also part of the Mental Strength tool from the Core Tools programme. When you choose where your mind rests, even for a few seconds, you are already doing the work that makes hypnosis possible.

What you might notice

Some people feel calmer.
Some feel heavier or lighter.
Some feel no change at all.

All of these responses are normal. Hypnosis is not about feeling a certain way. It is about creating conditions where your mind can think more clearly and your system can settle.

What matters is not how “deep” you feel, but how steady your attention becomes.

A holistic, multi-disciplinary approach

Hypnotherapy is only one part of the work. I combine hypnosis with mindfulness, breathwork, psychological tools and The Mind Works Process of Change. This helps you understand what is happening in your system and how to move forward safely.
