What If I Can’t Be Hypnotised?

An explanation for a very common worry...

A lot of people believe they cannot be hypnotised. Some have a busy mind. Some struggle to relax.

Some have been carrying stress for so long that their system finds it hard to switch off. All of this makes sense. Hypnosis is not about becoming deeply relaxed on demand. It is simply a shift in attention that helps you think and feel more clearly.

Hypnosis is a natural state that most people enter without realising it. You experience it when you are absorbed in a conversation, a book, a film or your own thoughts. Your focus narrows. The background noise fades. You remain fully aware, but your attention becomes steadier. In therapy, we use this state deliberately to help you work with emotions, habits and beliefs that are harder to access when life feels busy or overwhelming.

If your mind feels restless or guarded, we adapt the approach. Some sessions use gentle grounding or mindfulness to settle the system first. Some use breathwork to reduce the stress load. Some begin with a simple conversation to understand what is happening underneath the surface. There is no right way to experience hypnosis. Your system decides the pace, and we follow it.

You remain in control at all times

Hypnosis is not sleep.
You do not lose awareness.
You can pause at any point.
You choose what you want to explore.

The aim is not to force your mind into a certain state. It is to create the conditions where you can understand yourself more clearly.

A holistic, multi-disciplinary approach

Hypnotherapy is only one part of the work. I combine hypnosis with mindfulness, breathwork, psychological tools and The Mind Works Process of Change. This helps you understand what is happening in your system and how to move forward safely.
